@JanetheReporterOfficial: WATCH Prince Trevor propose to old lady Eloise, engagement press conference announced

Kyle stared at the screen and had to resist the urge to smash it. His whole life his siblings had been coming in first, because he was not that fast at running, but also because they would stop at nothing to win. He was the only one who really wanted to follow his heart, and yet here he was, last in the race to marriage. He slowly handed the GlassPad™ back to Janice.

“Did you find out anything about Coach Nena?” he asked.

“Oh her? Yeah she’s not a Royal. Not in the slightest. Found that out in the first ten minutes we were here, actually. Didn’t I tell you?” Janice said while waving her hand madly over her head as if she was batting away a bat that did not exist.

“What? Are you sure?” Trevor screeched, like the ghost bat.

“So sure. With a last name like Smith,” Janice spat, “There’s no way a Royal got in that bloodline at any point, darling.”

Kyle paced up and down the basement, his frenzied thoughts swirling around his head. He would never find true love. But he had! And he had lost her, before he had even talked to her. He had to marry her. This is what his life was about, this is what he was made to do, this is what he would be remembered for long after he was gone: King Kyle, husband of Queen Coach Nena. Perhaps it was time to take a page from his siblings’ book. He stopped pacing and looked at Janice with more intention than he knew he had in him. He had already broken one rule, so why stop there?

“Are you going to be sick?” she asked.

“No,” Kyle responded. “I feel good for the first time in my whole life. Well, except for all those times I went to the spa. Those days I felt really good. But you know what I mean?”

“Not really,” Janice responded. Kyle moved closer to her and leaned in with rule-breaking excitement that made his skin crawl, or maybe that was just because of the basement dust filled with invisible mites.

“I want to change the records,” he whispered.

“You want to change RECORDS?” she asked.

He looked at the withered face before him and did his best to channel Emma channeling George Washington. “Look, if you help me, when I’m King I’ll give you whatever you want.”

Janice stared back at him with a soft smile.

“Whatever I want . . . ?” she asked. “Even a unicorn?”

“Especially a unicorn,” Kyle responded. Janice stood up and walked away a few paces.

“I don’t know! It’s quite a favor to ask of little old Janice Hanice. I mean, it’s treason. You’re talking about hacking the GlassNet™ to get into the birth database. I could get beheaded!”

“We don’t do that anymore,” Kyle answered.
